Tate Liverpool - 'Outsider Art' by David Maclagan

29/07/2010
Tate Liverpool has at least two exhibition spaces which are painted in strong vibrant colours. It makes a change from the classic white walls of a gallery. I find it draws one in spiritually and the works on display compliment these rooms. To me the Tate in Liverpool is a spiritual place where one is challenged by works that are thought provoking, disturbing and yet stimulate my creative mind. I have for sometime been interested in 'Outsider Art' especially the work created by people who are on the edge of life, 'self taught visionaries, disturbed individuals in institutions, eccentric and others'. These pieces of art should be valued and respected for their insight into the minds of so many talented beings. I look forward to reading this book that I came across in the Tate shop today. It continues to rain here, the clouds are oppressive. I have now witnessed the rain mist over the Mersey, it reminds me so much of the Scottish west coast that I grew up viewing from my bedroom window. The sun does penetrate giving light to a tiresome day.
